Recent experiences make me wonder, where do people get their information from, especially on the latest building science? I was a builder for a number of years. This topic isn’t one that you can easily access at the nearest college or university. Entering the profession of carpentry or home building is far from a conventional career path, with natural stepping stones along the way. So I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that the scientific knowledge base comes from non-traditional sources as well. Some architecture programs will touch on the building science concepts in classes, but not to the degree that it is really needed for the design of high-efficiency homes being built these days. So where do people get their information? Searching the internet, you can find all sorts of zealots spouting off on how things should be done. Obviously, for information as important as building science, we need to rely on people that have proven that they have the knowledge that we can trust.
